Brown sugar is defined as "squeezed sugar cane juice that is boiled, concentrated and then cooled without processing." Among these, only brown sugar produced on eight remote islands is certified as "Okinawa Brown Sugar".
Hateru Island’s brown sugar is renowned for using traditional methods to produce the natrual brown sugar. It is characterized by its concentrated sugar and sweetness, richness and a mellow body. It has a deep flavour with large grains and a crunchy texture.
How to eat
The unique aroma and delicious taste of brown sugar makes it perfect as a tea confectionery. If you use it in an appropriate amount in boiled dishes, it will enhance the flavour and make it even more delicious. Futhermore, you can enjoy the black sugar on it's own, with a hint of sweetness and stong rich flavour of the sugar.
